GEARBOX

A team of four students and I collaborated to manufacture a gearbox powered by a Mabuchi RE-280 motor. The purpose was to apply gear train and bearing analysis to lift varying loads along a multi-angle ramp. We 3D printed the motor mount, spindles, and battery pack, while the metal components were machined using lathes, mills, and a drill press. Our assembly achieved remarkable success during competition, lifting the maximum load of 30 lbs up a 60° ramp in less than 70 seconds. I performed spreadsheet calculations to optimize our gear placements, spindle radii, and theoretical run times. Additionally, I fabricated the cart, spindles, and hubs that secured the plastic gears to the shafts.
