DROP TEST
STRUCTURE

I developed a dynamic test protocol to provide qualitative and quantitative data supporting the efficacy of the Aviator Neck Support Proof of Concept I built at Roam Robotics. To recreate the gravitational forces experienced in the catapult phase of an ejection, I designed the structure to release the ATD head form in a face-down orientation. I also utilized a simple cotter pin system to initiate the drop and attached sleeve bearings on the tracks to minimize the effects of friction. The fixture successfully demonstrated its resilience, enduring over 100 drops of a 30 lb load from a maximum height of 20 inches.
